BeTheMatch is an organization that is dedicated to helping leukemia patients find a matching bone marrow donor and they will be in attendance during the event. They will be on site to offer cheek swabs for those of you interested in registering to become a donor. While the event is meant to be a joyous occasion there is an urgent need from a family battling leukemia who need our help. So please come and help us if you are able. Most matches are from the same ethnic group and most of the registry is of European decent. A few minutes of your time could help this family! Please see the below message from Ji-eun’s family: Ji-eun is a 35 year-old Korean-American mother of a 3 year-old girl and a 6 year-old boy. She’s a children’s dentist for vulnerable children from disadvantaged homes in Northern Virginia and a US Navy veteran. Ji-eun is dying and needs your help. She has acute leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to live, but hasn’t found any donors who match. Please take 2 minutes to register to be a donor at https://join.bethematch.org/ and you’ll receive a cheek-swab kit in the mail. A 20-second swab could save a life. |
